2013 Chavy-Chouet Volnay Sous la Chapelle

100% Pinot Noir, hand harvested. Aged 18 months in aged French oak barrels. From a parcel of 8 year old vines located within the 1er cru Carelle sous la Chapelle vineyard adjacent to Champans.

Tasting Notes: Savory on the nose, with underbrush, garrigue and red fruits. Midweight on the palate, clean and fresh, with flavors of red berries, tarragon and orange.

About the winemakers: Domaine Chavy-Chouet was founded when two of the oldest families in Meursault & Puligny-Montrachet were brought together. This is the reason why their vineyards are divided almost equally between the two villages.

Chavy-Chouet owns 13 hectares and have some of the finest vineyard sites in Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin and Volnay, including a monopole vineyard in Meursault that has been in the family since 1893.

Romaric Chavy is the 7th generation winemaker for his family domaine, taking over in 2006. Romaric decided on his career at an early age, attending wine school starting at age 12, and alternating between studying and working for his godfather, Francois Mikulski. He uses organic practices in his work in the vineyards, with plowing and minimal use of sprays. These are incredibly structured, beautiful wines.
