2015 Gandesa Cooperatiu Gandesola White Blend Terra Alta Spain
The Cooperative of Gandesa has 453 members, most of whom live exclusively from their land. The most important crops are vineyards, almond trees and olive trees. They bring their crops to the Cooperative's facilities, where the final product is produced and commercialized.
The climate is Mediterranean with low rainfall (350 l/m2) persistent winds: Cercs (from land to sea) or Gabradina (from sea to Land), very cold winters and very hot summers.
The soils are highly compacted, calcareous, and clayey. The building of Gandesa Cooperative Winery was one of the first projects of Cèsar Martinell i Brunet, a disciple and mentee of Gaudi who he met during a visit to the Sagrada familia of Barcelona. The story goes that, the director of the bank agreed to give then a loan with the condition that they hire Cesar Martinelli, his grandson, as the architect. From 1918 to 1925 Martinelli built 40 buildings used for the production of olive and wine. He enlisted the help of Xavier Nogués for the tile work and decoration of the buildings.
The Gandesola line are wines produced using selected fruit from 7 to 25 year old vineyards.
